The title is a modern ethnographic work that captures Carpatho-Rusyn agricultural labor as seen in the Upper Boržava Valley. Following the agrarian annual cycle, it describes in great detail the various tasks involved in supporting a home in a Carpathian village.
The first part of the book contains the author’s short essays on the past and present of Rusyn farming work, food, and other cultural topics. The second part details the work done from spring until fall: fertilizing, soil preparation, planting, sowing and more. Finally, the third part deals with work on the farmstead such as storing firewood and tending to animals.
