Alexander Dukhnovych’s first play, originally published in 1850. The play was written in the Rusyn vernacular with intent for mass consumption and gained wide popularity. Dukhnovych preaches standing up for oneself and overcoming the drawbacks of rural isolation. The story was influenced by the temperance play Šenk palenčeni by Dukhnovych’s friend Ján Andraščík.
