Brief record from the Maramoroš Rusyn Council held in Sighet on 18 December, 1918. Held at a politically uncertain time, the Council asked for “all Rusyn lands” to be treated as a single unit, but ultimately left the post-war order question open. It elected Ukrainophile lawyer Mychajlo Braščajko as its head and agreed to hold a larger assembly in Khust in January 1919. The latter would proclaim a desire to unite with Ukraine and establish short-lived contacts with the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic.
