What if the integration of 70% of the Rusyn population never occurs?

The long-held fixation on a Ukrainian integration with the EU, as so many Rusyn leaders have done since even before the war began, is another misplaced step in a long line of avoidance to the real work that must be done. Now the results of this failure are showing themselves. Things at the moment are not going well and haven’t for a long time. With that is a stark reality. The chance of a Ukrainian integration with the European Union was and will be close to zero. The most liberal years on the European continent for the first half of the 21st century have also likely come and gone. This is what our population faces.

By being focused to such a degree on advocacy as we have, placing responsibility onto foreign institutions filled with bureaucrats, the Rusyn has absolved themselves of responsibility. For Rusyns in the EU this has taken the form of cultural subsidization and an absent political class. In Subcarpathia this takes the form of ignoring the realistic measures needed to renationalize the local population and organize against state enforced oppression. In both cases, it is much easier to continue with meandering forms of activism with a wish things would change than do what is necessary. Such a nation does not deserve a future and won’t have one if they know longer have will for it.
